Amelia Bedelia is a hard worker. Not only is she a Housekeeper, she's also a Teacher, Student, Political Candidate, Amateur Rocket Scientist, Baseball Player, Babysitter, Librarian, Musician, Doctor, Camper, Construction Worker... You name it, she can do it.
Now, the thing you have to know about Amelia is that you have to be very careful when instructing her how to do something, because she will do exactly what you tell her to:
"Grandad smiled and said, 'Watch your step.'
Amelia Bedelia tried to watch her steps, but it made her dizzy to look down at her feet all the time."

"'Would you like something more?'
'Yes,' said Mr. Rogers. 'Toast and an egg.'
'Fine,' said Amelia Bedelia.
She went into the kitchen.
Very quickly, Amelia Bedelia was back.
Mr. Rogers picked up the egg. He broke it over his toast.
'Confound it, Amelia Bedelia!' he said. 'I didn't say raw egg!'
'But you didn't say to cook it,' said Amelia Bedelia."

So, now you understand why you have to be careful when you tell Amelia Bedelia what to do.
Amelia Bedelia and her books have been amusing children for over 40 years. Originally written by author Peggy Parish, the series continued to run after her death in 1988 thanks to her nephew, Herman, who continued to write the series. Herman's Amelia Bedelia debut book came out in 1995.
