Interview with Author Dan O'Brien

Today, I welcome author Dan O'Brien to the Realm. Dan has been writing since he was a kid. Writing came naturally to Dan, and his turning it into a career was par for the course. Welcome Dan!

When did you start writing?

I started writing when I was pretty young, around 6 or 7. I wrote and designed a play for my cousin. It was not long after that I was scribbling in journals, and then producing novels.

What is your favorite writing style?

I am a fan of the full-length novel, though I dabble here and there.

Where do you get your ideas?

A variety of places. A lot of times I will have a fascinating dream that later becomes a novel  sometimes I just have a great conversation with a friend or co-worker.

What’s the best thing about writing?

I get make things up. We essentially we get paid (if we are so fortunate) to pretend for a living. Things don't get much better than that.

What’s the worst thing about writing?

That I can't do it all the time. Life continues to get in the way.

What do you do when you’re not writing?

I am finishing up graduate work in psychology and I am the Senior Editor and Marketing Director at Empirical magazine.

Do you like reading?

Absolutely.

What are you reading right now?

Right now, I am between books. I have finished up The Blue Kind by a fellow indie author and Dance of Dragons. I should be starting something up again real soon ... hopefully. :)

  2. Nice to meet you. I like your reason to write (just wish I knew how to do the getting paid part:) )
